Who this applies to.
This policy covers personal and health information collected by the practice of Professor Daevyd Rodda at Sunshine Coast Orthopaedic Group, including information collected through this website. The practice is bound by the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and by Queensland health records legislation.
What is collected.
- Identifying details: name, date of birth, contact details, Medicare and health fund numbers.
- Health information: your referral, history, examination findings, imaging, operation records and correspondence.
- Website information: pages visited and general analytics. The site does not collect health information through analytics, and analytics data is not linked to your medical record.
Sensitive information.
Health information is sensitive information under the Privacy Act. It is collected only where it is reasonably necessary for your care, and with your consent, which is implied when you attend a consultation or send a referral. You can withdraw consent for a particular use at any time, though this may limit the care that can be provided.
Cookies and analytics.
This site uses Google Analytics to measure how pages are used, and a MaxConnex analytics script that records which pages are reached from AI assistants and search engines. Both set cookies in your browser. Neither collects your name, your health information, or anything you would enter into a medical form.
You can block or delete these cookies in your browser settings, or install Google's opt-out add-on, without affecting your ability to use this site or to make an appointment.
Information sent overseas.
The analytics services above are operated by providers who may store or process data outside Australia, including in the United States. No health information and no identifying patient information is sent to them. Your medical records are held in Australia.
How it is used.
To provide your care, to communicate with your GP and other treating practitioners, to claim from Medicare and your health fund, and to meet legal obligations including mandatory reporting to the Australian Orthopaedic Association National Joint Replacement Registry, which records every joint replacement performed in Australia.
Disclosure.
Your information may be disclosed to other practitioners involved in your care, to the hospital, to Medicare and your health fund, and to the joint replacement registry. It is not sold, and it is not used for marketing by third parties.
Storage and security.
Records are held in secure electronic and physical systems with access limited to authorised staff. Health records are retained for the period required by law, which is generally seven years from last contact, or until age 25 for a patient who was a child.
If something goes wrong.
If a data breach occurs that is likely to cause you serious harm, the practice will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as required by the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
Access and correction.
You may request access to your records or ask for a correction. Write to the practice at reception@scorthogroup.com.au or call (07) 5493 8038. Proof of identity is required, and a fee may apply for providing copies.
Complaints.
Raise any concern with the practice first on (07) 5493 8038. If it is not resolved, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au, or the Office of the Health Ombudsman in Queensland at oho.qld.gov.au.
